Beachy Keen has a rescue?
Why yes we do! We take in chinchillas that have not been able to find homes for whatever reason or if the owner can no longer care for them. We will make sure they are further cared for until they can go to a fantastic (and of course approved) permanent home. We understand that sometimes there are situations that are unavoidable and prevent you from keeping your pet. We're here to help! Even if that means giving us a call to ask about healthcare for him or her. We are continually researching them and if we don't have an answer for you, our exotics vet or another breeder we know does. Any fees charged for a rescue are NOT for profit, but there are costs for us to keep the animal here until a new home can be given. All rescue fees apply to those costs alone. Just because we are breeders does not mean we breed every animal that comes into our care. We do NOT breed "unknown" chinchillas-meaning that if we dont have a pedigree for it, we dont breed it! It does not make a good practice for breeding good chins. Thats not saying an unpedigreed chin is bad, there are just too many "what-ifs" and we spend a great deal finding good chins to pair together and we keep full records on all of our breeding stock. Pay for quality, get quality, you know?
IF DROPPING OFF:
In some cases we may be able to meet with you to pick up the chin but please understand that we are NOT ALWAYS able to do so. Please be sure to give us as much info on the chin as you can! Any supplies you can give as well for the chin would be extremely helpful. It helps us keep our rescue animal costs down. We may or may not be able to take in a chin with severe trauma to eyes or with fractures of any kind. If you have vet records, that helps tremendously!
IF ADOPTING:
Please check our Rescues Available page to see if we have any furbabies needing great homes. We try our hardest to keep our adoption prices low to find these chins great homes but it all depends on the amount of vet care required (if any). Have questions? Ask us! When you adopt a chin from us and find yourself in a position where you can no longer care for it, it must be returned to us!
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Upon arrival, you must sign a surrender form. Once signed, the animal cannot be returned. Make sure this is what you want to do. Should you have any questions about how your animal will be placed that is not answered on our Q&A page, ask us. We do not hide anything from anyone about our business. You will not be judged if surrendering an animal to us. We know life is life and things happen. All we ask is that you be serious about help and not waste our time. A lot of work goes into finding a home for a chin here and we start right away. When you surrender a chin to us you will not get it back. Please take your decision seriously.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LEAVE YOUR CHIN WITH US:
We assess the general health of the animal. If it needs vet care we contact one of our 2 vets right away for an appointment. The chin is kept in quarantine for a minimum of 30 days, even if it is healthy. We keep a list of "pre-approved" people interested in our chins and start the process of looking for a home immediately. Potential adopters are notified of the chin, the condition, the estimated time it needs to stay here, etc and appointments to come look at are set up if interested. The process seems fast, but we do not rush to rehome chins, we like people to come by and interact with the chin. Their personalities vary as much as ours do and they need to find a compatible owner. After the 7 days, given it is healthy enough for rehoming, it is released for "formal" adoption-meaning that someone who has come to look at it already is able to adopt and take home.
